keyboarderlicious.

Just finished a jam with the lovely Daniel who is kind enough to lend his skills to our recording. He adds a nice touch to our sound (not disregarding Phoebe our last keyboardist just so you know…), is a fast learner and…Philippino! IATL is sticking with the multi-cultural theme, ha!

Song Sale.

Last night we played our first gig in Wellington at a wee event called ‘Song Sale’ that happens every now and then. We knew it what it was called, had no idea what it was all about until the organiser told us the concept. Which freaked us out. Because no one ACTUALLY wanted to do it. And then they said that they often have people play sets in between which is where we came in. Then we rested easy.

So the Song Sale is an interactive event where punters come in and pay $5 and this gets them a song of their choice from the resident performers. They choose the topic and style and the residents have to sit out the back in a secluded area, write a song about said topic, then come back out and perform it to everyone. These people are very funny.

I think our set was a little interesting. Cam said he wasn’t able to perform with us so we practiced away with Fahim (who is our percussionist anyway ha) and during sound check, Cam randomly showed up. Something about his car having broken down. So he played with us too in the end, stood at the back rocking out the Tambourine and Shaker. We played a couple of songs that i’ve now cut out of our full band live set (last night was all acoustic- Dejmbe, Acoustic guitar and Double Bass) and my favourite of the night was our cover of The Smiths song “Bigmouth Strikes Again”. Now, i’ve always performed this song since playing solo shows but last night made me love playing it again. It was always completely different to the original (because hey, we aint no covers band!) but Nick added this bass line that made it that much funkier. I cant think of another word haha. I showed him the original this morning. Got a slight surprised reaction.

With that out the way, we continue with pre-production. Both parties (us and Lee Prebble) are very much looking forward to it. 12 days til we begin!

Im feeling very inspired today, i think it might have to be writing day! Lucky i don’t have a job yet ;)
